Captivating Landscape Photography

Discover the beauty of nature by viewing the landscape photography of Fred Michel. For over 40 years, he has captured stunning images of sceneries in various parts of the US, including Vermont, New York, California, and Hawaii. He has also taken photos of beautiful locations in England, France, and Spain.

Fred shoots on Fuji Velvia 50 film with Fuji 617 and Pentax 67 cameras for large formats. He ensures his untouched photographs are captured on high-resolution film to have a sharper and more well-defined look. In addition, he uses Nikon D700 and Pentax 645Z cameras for digital images.

Get to Know Fred

Fred is a retired dentist whose love for photography began at an early age. His mother introduced him to the magic (and frustration) of shooting with a Kodak box camera. Since then, his interest in light and color has only grown. He uses 35 mm film and 6” x 7” slides because he believes capturing one interesting image still counts as a good use of film. In addition, he specializes in landscape and outdoor photography.

Although mainly self-taught, Fred enrolled in journalistic photography courses at Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY. He has also attended formal workshops and several quests yearly and has had one juried show with another one scheduled soon.

Fred has shown his work as a landscape photographer at museums and galleries throughout Shrewsbury, VT, and the surrounding areas. His photos were on display at the following locations:

  • Surdam Art Gallery at Green Mountain College in Poultney
  • Chaffee Art Center in Rutland
  • Pember Museum in Granville, NY

He has also displayed a 68-foot image of a crowd at a Fourth of July parade at the Poultney Historical Society.

Aside from landscape photography, Fred’s other passions include fly-fishing, speed skating, biking, dancing, reading, and building antique replica guns. He lives with his partner Nancy and their dog Gatsby, two cats Lee-Roy and Scott, and two horses.
